Undetectable features works by artists in a variety of media that engage the concept of "undetectable," a word that has come to signify new developments and modes of identification in the discourse of HIV/AIDS.
In 1985, the development of an antibody test for HIV established a dichotomy in the fields of health, sexuality, and politics: the categories of “positive” and “negative.” Ten years later, the advent of combination antiretroviral treatments enabled a reduction of a body’s viral load to levels that elude conventional testing, thus inaugurating a third form of status and a new concept in biopolitics: “undetectable.” Signifying a presence that is absent, predicated on suppression and surveillance, the undetectable occupies an indeterminate space and produces new modes of connectivity, at once increasing the capacity of a body and subjecting it to a relentless regime of control.
Undetectable engages this emergent identity through a set of materials, texts, concepts, and practices concerned with presence and absence, transparency and contagion, the body and its limits. The exhibition is accompanied a publication with contributions from Andy Campbell, DUOX, Ann Lauterbach, LAMAR, and Nathan Lee.

As part of Mary Walling Blackburn’s work, Against Tenderness, the artist proposes to collectively translate a work by the pioneering queer theorist Guy Hocquenghem. This event will stage a reading of the completed translation, touching on Hocquenghem’s problems with tenderness.
SKOTE is a performance collaboration dedicated to the movement arts. Glands is a performance rooted in the relationship between a body and the moments in which it seems to "betray” us, such as in puberty, illness, and aging. Curated by Rachel Cook.

About The Curators:
Nathan Lee is a critic and curator based in New York. He is a contributing editor of Film Comment and has written for the New York Times, Village Voice, and Bookforum among other publications. Recent curatorial projects include How We Move (SALT, Istanbul) and JOE/BRAINS/LAMAR (CCS Bard, Annandale-on-Hudson). Lee is Curatorial and Program Associate at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
Rachel Cook is a curator and writer based in New York. Recent curatorial projects include the MA thesis project Three Evidentiary Claims (CCS Bard, Annandale-on-Hudson) and “Now that I'm by myself," she says, "I'm not by myself, which is good” (DiverseWorks, Houston, TX). She has written for Flash Art, Art Lies, and ...might be good among other publications. Cook is currently a Masters Candidate at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
